Federal Regulations (Part 280 Subpart D Section 280.40(2)) require underground storage tank owners and operators must provide a method(s) of release detection that is "installed, operated, and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, including routine maintenance and service checks for operability or running condition....". Many state, local, and regional regulations contain similar references to release detection equipment maintenance, service, and operability requirments.
